Outreach Program

Summer Teacher Experience Program Utilizing Physics (STEP-UP) provides metro Atlanta high school physics teachers an eight-week research experience. The objective of the program is to familiarize metro Atlanta high school physics teachers with the modern physics concepts and their applications to engineering as well as their relevance to today’s technology.  More info about the program can be found at www.ece.gatech.edu/academics/outreach/step-up/index.html

Hands-On-Tech – HOT Days @ GT is a one-week long summer enrichment program designed to introduce high school students to Physics and Electrical and Computer Engineering concepts.  Program attendees are exposed to a wide variety of hands-on activities, including building a computer, working with robots, using music synthesis technology, building simple digital logic circuits, constructing a speaker from common household parts, and tours of various research labs.  The activities are supervised by Georgia Tech faculty, staff, graduate, and undergraduate students.  All rising 10th and 11th grade high school students with an interest in hands-on activities are encouraged to apply and participate in the program.  We are particularly interested in gender and ethnic diversity, so we especially encourage girls and minorities to submit applications.  More info about the program and on-line application is available at: www.ece.gatech.edu/academics/outreach/hot-days/index.html

Research internships for high school students introduce students to scientific research, and familiarize them with science and engineering undergraduate programs and careers.  Participation in this program is restricted to rising 11th and 12th grade metro Atlanta students.  Accepted students are assigned to work on research projects along with undergraduate and graduate students in the Center for 6 weeks during the summer.
